Alumni Spotlight: Dena Dyer
by Writing Workshops Staff
Today, we're catching up with Dena Dyer, an author, speaker, and coach whose work has been published by five traditional book publishers, as well as many magazines and journals.
Dena took a Personal Essay and Memoir workshop with W.W. Norton memoirst J.T. Hill. She said, "I'm very grateful for JT's input and expertise and the helpful comments from my fellow students. I workshopped a piece that was published in his class, which you can read in Calla Press (the essay is titled "The Prevalence of Pain"). I loved reading the essays J.T. picked out; they were all so different and I learned something from each of them. I also enjoyed meeting my fellow writers and reading their diverse viewpoints and experiences."
Dena's interests include the intersection of faith and trauma/chronic illness/depression. Her one-year goal is to finish a long braided essay and begin submitting it. Dena's long-term goals are to finish a draft of her memoir on motherhood and illness, and enroll in an MFA.
We're rooting for you, Dena! Thank you for letting us be part of your writing journey.
