Alumni Spotlight: Ning Sullivan

Today, we're catching up with Ning Sullivan, who was born and grew up in mainland China. She came to the United States of America at age thirty-six. A former academic and researcher with advanced degrees in philosophy and sociology, she has studied and worked in China, Sweden, Denmark, Mexico, and the US. She has taught philosophy, sociology, and statistics, worked as a data consultant, and published research papers on Asian American mental health. She is an Ashley Bryan Fellow.
We are celebrating her first publication in creative writing! Ning's story "Mizugiwa" was published in the Spring 2022 Issue of Massachusetts Review! Ning worked on this story with Morgan Talty in his 3-Month mentorship program last year. Ning said the one-on-one focused attention from Morgan was excellent.

Ning says she loves the short story form:
"Right now, I would say three writers are most influential for my writing: Alice Munro, Haruki Murakami, and Salman Rushdie. My short term goal is two short stories and my long term goal is to complete a short story collection."
