If you're looking for a novel that keeps you on your toes with every page, Swallow the Ghost by Eugenie Montague is a must-read. Recently selected as an editor's pick by Publishers Weekly, this audacious and emotionally precise novel traces the impact of a violent event on three interconnected lives. Through the story of Jane Murphy, a New York wunderkind navigating the precarious world of social media marketing and her own private struggles, Montague deftly unravels the layers of truth, public identities, and private realities. As the narrative shifts and perspectives change, what you thought you knew about Jane and her world will be turned upside down, making this book a compelling read that will linger in your mind long after the last page.

But the excitement doesn't end with Swallow the Ghost! Eugenie Montague is also offering a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of how great stories are crafted with her upcoming 3-week Zoom intensive, Reading Like a Writer: How Yoko Ogawa and Christine Schutt Unsettle Us. This course invites you to step behind the curtain and examine how these two master storytellers create a sense of menace and unease in their works.

In this intensive, Montague will guide you through a close reading of selected novellas and stories by Yoko Ogawa and Christine Schutt. You'll explore how these authors manipulate point-of-view, tone, structure, and other literary elements to build tension and unsettle their readers. By the end of the course, you'll not only have a deeper appreciation for these writers but also a toolkit of strategies to apply to your own writing.

Whether you're an aspiring writer or a seasoned storyteller, Montague's class offers a rare chance to learn from one of today's most exciting new voices. Don't miss out on this opportunity to elevate your craft and see the world of fiction through the eyes of a writer.

Classes begin on November 5th, with live sessions on November 12th and 19th. Can't make it live? No problem—the sessions will be recorded and available to watch afterward.
