Author & Agent Replay: a Conversation with James Tate Hill & Eric Smith

James Tate Hill and his agent and fellow author Eric Smith joined us for a publication-day discussion of JT's debut memoir, Blind Man’s Bluff (W. W. Norton). In addition to the book’s themes of disability and self-acceptance, the two talked candidly about the writing process, the road to publication, and the author-agent relationship. James Tate Hill is the author of a memoir, Blind Man’s Bluff (W. W. Norton, 2021). In 2015, his fiction debut, Academy Gothic, won the Nilsen Literary Prize for a First Novel. He serves as fiction editor for Monkeybicycle and contributing editor at Literary Hub, where he writes a monthly audiobooks column. James also teaches Fiction & Nonfiction workshops.
Eric Smith is a Young Adult author and literary agent with P.S. Literary living in Philadelphia. His latest novel, Don’t Read the Comments, was published by Inkyard Press in January 2020, and was a YALSA 2021 Best Fiction for Young Adults selection. The paperback is out now. His upcoming book You Can Go Your Own Way publishes on November 2nd, and is available for pre-order. His next anthology Battle of the Bands, co-edited with Lauren Gibaldi, publishes September 14th with Candlewick.
